Welcome to My New Local Blog
Week 1
I recorded ‘hide your love away’ this week for my experimental research, this is so that I can analyse my eventual recorded version against this first version to see if I have made any improvement.
I also have made note of some websites that could be useful for my research, however I haven’t included them on this post because it comes up with an error when I try to paste in web links
Week 2
I went to the library in this week to see if I could find any books that might be worth looking at to get some quotes from. However, in the college library, most of the books are biographies of bands or help guides for DAW’s so I couldn’t find anything useful. In the science section, there wasn’t any books for anatomy of the throat either so I couldn’t use any of those
Week 3
I completed my experimental research this week by recording ‘The Sound’ by the 1975 as my pop track. I can use this when I re record it in a few months, to test my progress on the practise regime.
I’ve also found blogs and videos to be more useful than books, as this is a condensed form of media, and while books may go into more detail, specific books are difficult to find, and take a long to time to read should you find the right ones.
Week 4
Elton John interview – https://www.billboard.com/articles/news/65620/a-qa-with-elton-john
I found this interview where Elton John talks about how he improved his vocal technique. I know that this is a reliable source because its information from the artist himself. I could use this in my case study section as an example of an artist I admire talking about vocal technique.
Elton John interview 2 – https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/the-rolling-stone-interview-elton-john-100053/
I also found this interview that I could use in my essay. However, while this resource is a reliable primary resource because its straight from the artist, the information is a little too vague, and I probably wouldn’t be able to apply it effectively. I may use it to supplement the other interview, which is more reliable. I could also use this in my case study section
Week 5
http://thesingingvoice.com/about/vocal-anatomy – I found this blog talking about vocal anatomy. This may not be the most reliable source of information because it doesn’t come from a real scientific organisation, however it does come with diagrams that show the concepts that he is referring to. This makes it slightly more trustworthy. This would begged in my research section if I choose to go into the science of the voice.
I found this source that talks about singing scales, and different ways to sing them. This source may be unreliable as there are no credentials in order to verify the author as someone who is able to talk about the voice. However, this source is very detailed and does talk in depth about different technique, so the author must have some knowledge in order to write an article this detailed. I can use this in the research section when I’m compiling my practise regime.
I found this video by Dr Daniel K Robinson where he talks about vocal stamina. I know I can trust this source because its created by a trained vocal specialist and doctor, and a lot of the information in the video could be useful when discussing vocal stamina is the research section of my essay
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sing/learning/breathing.shtml – This source is on the BBCs website and is written by British choral conductor Suzy Digby. I know I can trust this source because anything that appears on the BBCs website must be properly fact checked, and it is written by an expert in the field.
week 6
I found a primary source on http://www.ramseyvoice.com, that talks about the difference between falsetto and head voice. I know this is a reliable source because the author is an ‘institute for vocal advancement’ certified tutor and has worked as a vocal tutor for 8 years. This gives him the experience to be able to talk confidently about these topics, and makes his quotes more trustworthy. I can use this in the research section as a definition for the different types of voices, so that I can use a professional definition
